Stained glass by Marc Chagall (1887-1985). The top photo is from the Reims Cathedral. The second row, as well as the last two, show the America Windows in the Art Institute of Chicago. The bottom left photo is the Chagall Window, a free-standing piece of stained glass commissioned by the United Nations. It commemorates the 1961 plane crash that killed Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld and fifteen other people.

Let’s end today with something beautiful. Last weekend I visited the Art Institute of Chicago for the first time in far, far too long. The Chagall America windows are back on display after more than six years of conservation, and the result is nothing less than stunning. That blue, oh man. That’s not exaggerating.
